Rosetta separation
2011 - Mission to a comet
After
having mapped and visually explored the comet the tiny Roland cometary lander
separates from the mother ship Rosetta and prepares to land on the rough surface
of the tumbling comet.
The operation will take place in a fully autonomous mode due the huge distance
and resulting telemetry delays. Both the orbiter Rosetta and the Lander Roland
will be fitted with artificial intelligence and be able to take decisions on
their own with little or no interference from Earth.
